Young hunters took a record number of deer during the youth harvest that was completed last weekend in Illinois.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources said 4,852 deer were taken October 10 through 12, breaking the old record of more than 4,700 taken last year.
IDNR said 40 deer were taken during the weekend in Sangamon County, two fewer than last year’s youth season.
The top local county was Macoupin with 101.
Youth hunters with unfilled youth deer permits may use them during the upcoming firearm deer seasons on November 20-22 and December 3-6.
