The Springfield Park District cut the ribbon this week on the redeveloped Gietl Park on the city’s northeast side.
Additions include a splash pad, park shelter, concrete plazas and walkways, enhanced lighting for evening use, a hammock area, benches and landscaping.
The district received a $600,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for the project.
