Competitive eaters are planning to gather in Springfield next Saturday for the first Cozy Dog Eating World Championship. The event is part of the Mother Road Festival celebrating the 100th anniversary of Route 66.
Sanctioning organization Major League Eating said competitors will have 10 minutes to consume as many of the battered-and-fried hot dogs as possible. Registration is closed.
The competition begins at 1 pm next Saturday, September 26 on the Isringhausen Stage in downtown Springfield.
Top prize is $5,000. Reisch Charities is presenting the competition. Major League Eating will create a new world record category with the competition.
