A capital campaign for a new Springfield Lutheran High School has received a $6 million gift from a local church.

The school announced last week that St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chatham donated the funds to begin a capital campaign for the new permanent campus. The school was forced out of its Washington Street facility by mine subsidence four years ago. Designs are underway for a new school on a 23-acre site north of Woodside Road.

Lutheran High School is operating in the interim at Springfield First Church of the Nazarene on the city’s far south side.
