Illinois is suing the Postal Service to block it from interfering in the upcoming midterm elections.

Capitol News Illinois reports Attorney General Kwame Raoul has joined a multistate lawsuit that seeks to block the Postal Service from enforcing new rules that seek to restrict who is allowed to cast mail-in ballots.

Those rules stem from a March 31 st executive order by President Donald Trump that he says is aimed at preventing non-citizens from casting ballots.

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in federal court in Massachusetts.

It follows a U.S. Supreme Court ruling Monday that temporarily allows the Trump administration to proceed with implementing that executive order while a separate legal challenge is pending.
