An Illinois Prisoner Review Board panel is scheduled on Friday to consider a request for early medical release from prison by Sean Grayson.

The former Sangamon County sheriff’s deputy is serving a 20-year sentence for second-degree murder for the fatal shooting of Sonya Massey during a call to her Springfield home on July 6, 2024. Grayson was sentenced in January.

He is asking for early release under the Joe Coleman Medical Release Act for prisoners with a terminal illness.

A three-member panel is scheduled to consider the request in a non-public hearing on Friday morning at the board offices in Springfield.
