The Illinois Department of Transportation urges motorists to watch for pavement failures caused by high heat and humidity.
Crews on Tuesday repaired a buckle in pavement on westbound Interstate 72 just east of MacArthur Boulevard in Springfield.
IDOT said pavement buckles and blowouts occur with little warning during extended heat waves, and it’s not possible to predict where the failures might occur.
Pavement failures should be reported to IDOT or law enforcement. IDOT also asks motorist to be alert for repair crews.
