ISP: Investigation underway after state trooper fatally strikes pedestrian in Springfield

Illinois State Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian struck by a trooper’s squad car on Sixth Street in Springfield early Saturday.

ISP said the trooper was southbound in the middle lane near Linton Avenue at about 2:30 am when the squad struck the man bent over in the roadway.

Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon said an autopsy is scheduled for today on the 45-year-old man from Springfield. His identity has not been released.
